UNN Alumni Forum To Promote Media Practice

About 30 years after the last gathering of the alumni of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the association is set to meet again.

The aim of the meeting, it has been gathered, is to contribute to the development of communication study and media practice in Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Publicity Secretary, Reunion Planning Committee, Queen Eugene, on Wednesday said the Founder of the Centre for Values and Leadership and a Director of the Lagos Business School, Prof. Pat Utomi, would lead the contributions with a motivational talk.

Eugene said the reunion party would also feature meet-and-greet; and a parade of year groups.

The Jacksonites, as the members of the group fondly call themselves, gathered last in Nsukka in 1987.

Utomi, a UNN mass communication graduate of 1977, will host the gathering in Lagos.

Eugene added, “Those expected at the party include participants on the Jacksonites WhatsApp forum, where the idea for the reunion was born. They include Prince Tony Momoh, a former minister of information; Dr. Josef Bel-Molokwu, a former registrar of APCON; and Mr. Innocent Oparadike, a former editor of New Nigerian, among others.

Eugene said, “Starting from a WhatsApp Forum in June 2016, The Jacksonites has quickly grown into a formidable group with the primary aim of contributing to the development of media and communication study and practice as well as the progress of the mother department at Nsukka.”
